Boys and Girls Club Makes A Difference

boysandgirlsclub001Whether it’s the beginning of summer or the beginning of a new school year, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond – Hopewell Unit is a great place for young people.  With 350 Club members , excitement is never in short supply!

As children arrive, they are greeted by caring staff members who are dedicated to seeing each child reach their full potential.  With five core program areas of Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, the Arts and Sports, Fitness & Recreation, the club is intentional about developing the whole child.

Children are always learning, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond – Hopewell Unit makes learning fun in a safe and nurturing environment.  One such program is Triple Play.  This program teaches good eating habits, the importance of keeping fit and developing positive relationships in order to ultimately foster a healthy lifestyle.  Through Triple Play and a partnership with the local Food Bank to sponsor Kid’s Café, kids learn how to create a balanced meal, assist in meal preparations, and then eat a hot healthy meal.  Through programs like Triple Play and creative staff that make learning tangible, children in the club learn positive behaviors and develop healthy habits.

Other programs like SMART Moves, Passport to Manhood, Net Smartz and Keystone Club in our various core areas implement our youth development strategy which instills a sense of competence, usefulness and power or influence. When this strategy is fully implemented, self-esteem is enhanced and an environment is created which helps young people to reach their full potential.

With 86% of funding coming from the community, the generosity of each individual impacts the lives of young people in the Hopewell and Prince George community.
